A workshop designed to improve beginner and intermediate dancers. There will be two tracks: a beginner track for completely new dancers and dancers who want to work on their technique; and an intermediate track for experienced dancers who want to knock their dancing up to the next level. This is social swing dancing, so NO PARTNER REQUIRED! Bring all of your friends though! There will be four 50-minute classes in a row. To offer the right level of challenge for more of you, we will be offering two "track" levels:

The Beginner Track:

If you have never danced before, you should join this track. Classes will focus on the basic techniques and the essential moves of swing dance. But if you have taken beginner classes before, don't underestimate the value of these classes. Our instructors will bring things to the table that you had never thought of. And they will inspire you. We recommend that if you are not familiar with transitions between 6 count swing, 8 count Lindy Hop, and partnered Charleston, you should start here. If you feel you aren't being challenged enough, we can you move you over to the intermediate track if space permits. Beginner Track (Morton Hall, Room 330)
1:15 - 2:15 -- Intro to Charleston (Pat & Nat)
2:15 - 3:15 -- Partnered Charleston (Pat & Nat)
3:15 - 3:30 -- Break
3:30 - 4:30 -- Lindy Basics (Jason & Danielle)
4:30 - 5:30 -- Ooooo... Look at that... (Jason & Danielle)

The Intermediate Track:

This track will be a significant challenge for 90% of you. The lessons taught in this track will make you think about more than just the moves. You will learn to better connect with your partner and with the music. If you are comfortable with transitions between 6 count swing, 8 count Lindy Hop, and partnered Charleston, join the intermediate track. If you start to feel in over your head, you can always jump back over to the beginner track. Intermediate Track (Morton Hall, room 328)
1:15 - 2:15 -- Shake It Till Ya Make It (Jason & Danielle)
2:15 - 3:15 -- Jammin (Jason & Danielle)
3:15 - 3:30 -- Break
3:30 - 4:30 -- Rock Steps Rock! (Pat & Nat)
4:30 - 5:30 -- Straighten Up & Fly Right! (Pat & Nat)

UAHDC Year End Bash

When: Saturday, April 14, 2012. 7:00 PM –10:30 PM

Where: UAH University Center, Exhibit Hall

This is the dance we have been looking forward to all year! We started off the school year with Rocket City Jazz Orchestra, and we intend to wrap the year up on a high note! This will be the biggest dance of the year!
Rocket City Jazz Orchestra is Huntsville's own premiere jazz and swing band! They routinely play for events all over North Alabama and Southern/Middle Tennessee. They have a large repertoire of big band hits, from Count Basie to Glen Miller, but they also pull from more modern artists, such as Earth, Wind, & Fire and Phil Collins. You will be sure to find something to dance to here!

If that isn't enough excitement, we will also be joined by our talented instructors from the Charger Swing Workshop earlier in the day! You will have spent the afternoon learning so much from Patrick & Natalie and Jason & Danielle, so take this opportunity to cut loose and grab them for a dance! Show them how much you liked their material! We will have talented local instructors giving a beginner lesson at 7, so if you or any friends you invite don't know how to dance, they can pick something up here! No partner required! Topic TBA

FREE to UAH Students!! -- Bring a current student ID. Everyone else, $10*. Not included in workshop registration.

Whether you like to listen, watch, or dance, you need to be there!
